M for Memory

  1. Hi Shirley and Daniel
I really liked your presentation today, you did a great job. I think that a good memory is a very good thing to have for acquiring a second language. Memory is important especially to remember chunks and vocabulary, and I think that it is one of the most important things in SLA.

  3. Hi Shirley and Daniel,
The topic of memory in learning is very interesting and your presentation helped us understand the importance of memory in foreign language learning and showed us new ways to memorize chunks and vocabulary.
    Great Job!

  4. Hi Shirley and Danielle,

I think that you did a great job with the presentation and it was very clear and interesting.
There is no doubt that memory plays a key role in the process of acquiring language. Without it, we probably couldn't acquire new words or chunks. I think that remembering chunks is very helpful and useful in SLA, and as a future teacher I'll focus more on it.

    Dearest Danielle and Shirley,
What a lovely presentation, very neat and informative. You presented it well, you spoke fluently and clearly. You managed to engage us in your lesson and make it accessible without compromising the level and amount of material you wanted to instruct.
Your subject is very near to my heart. I think that memory is the key to any kind of learning and is one of the main components in every language learning theory. Your PPT makes it clear that memorizing includes many steps, for example: if we don't notice what we are taught, we can't store the information in our memories, which connects to the Noticing Hypothesis, and shows its importance (also see my post – I for Intake).
Moreover, repetition is another important step in the way of memorization (see my comment on R for Repetition). It is the key to short-term memory and to stronger connections in the brain (which strengthens the long-term memory as well).
Lastly, you talked about sensory memory. That only reinforces my strong believe in Learning Styles (see my comment on L for Learning Styles). If we can remember things that were analyzed by different senses in different ways, it is obvious to me that some of us remember better when we use our more dominant sense in the process of learning.

  6. Hi everyone,
First, thank you all for commenting on our PPT, I really enjoyed reading your comments and I couldn’t agree with you more. A good memory is absolutely necessary in SLA.
    And dear Ilit,
Thank you so much for your comment, I really enjoyed reading it and I think you pointed out some good points. I agree with you about sensory memory, I think of myself as a visual learner and I do believe that after I see things I remember them better than things that I've heard or read. Our senses are a powerful tool and we should use them as much as we can.

  7. Dear Danielle and Shirley,
I haven’t saw your presentation, bur your PPT file looks great! It is clear and organized.
Memory is a very individual and important skill and some of us are losing it when we get older :-)
There are a verity of ways to use our memory, especially when it comes to acquiring second or foreign language.
